DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been great!
What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
I loved just about everything! I really liked learning how to tag and FINALLY getting my podcast to post to my blog. Learning about different icons and adding them to my rss feeds has been life changing.

How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
Well...I now have a blog and plan to keep it! I loved taking this course on-line! I have a young child so getting in all my hours of SD is a bit of a challenge. Being able to take this course from home was awesome!!!!

Were there any take-a-ways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
All of it! I learned so much! Tagging and blogging will be a part of my daily communication.

What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?
Don't change anything! It was very informative and nicely organized. It was a lot of work, but full of good stuff. I appreciated this course so very much!!!!

If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you choose to participate?
I would sign up tomorrow!!

How would you describe your learning experience in ONE WORD or in ONE SENTENCE, so we could use your words to promote 23 Things learning activities?
UPDATED!

Thank you!!!

Nings...

Such a funny little name...ning. I remember that it's a social networking place...but can't get used to the word ning. I guess it's namesake is like like google or twitter, one day I will get used to it??? I went to the ning for teacher site. I liked and the idea, but had trouble finding teachers including myself. I searched for first grade teachers and several came up, but when I searched for sbisd teachers only 2 came up and they were not primary. I guess it's just starting though and will have more teachers soon. Social network of teachers can be a great thing! We can share ideas until the cows come home!!!!

You tube and teacher tube was lots of fun! I familiar with youtube and love it! My district blocks you-tube so I'm unable to use in the classroom. It was nice to see how to still show a video posted on youtube....but it is a lot of work :(

I didn't know teacher tube existed. I enjoyed playing with this site and WILL use it a lot!!!! Here is the safe way to use youtube in the classroom :) The videos I posted from youtube are just cute...they make me smile, the video from teachertube can be shown in the classroom. LOVE!

I played with the web 2.0 awards site all day. Of course I would pick the sites that cost first. I was sad that picnik was not free. I liked flickr and started their, but then got offered picnik to edit my picture. Neat site but it is not free! The third and best site I played on was picassa. LOVE! I made a couple of collages and manipulated several pictures. Posted a few. Having the web 2.0 site will be useful b/c it's all there. All of these sites are organized and linked. In a school setting, I could use the education or fun link or the pictures. Really...I can probably find a way to use just about all of these sites either personal or school related. Fun lesson!

THING 17 Below

http://rollyo.com/sibajak/sibaja-1st./

Again, I loved Rollyo and will use it next year a lot! Where was this when I was in college??? It would have saved a lot of time. My co-worker and I have lots of great sites we stumble upon and now will be able to categorized them and store them away for the next time. Love! I posted my list above...it's on a an author study we do each year.

Wikis

A wiki was new information for me. Can't believe emails will soon be a thing of the past...but agree wiki's will get the job done better. In the classroom, wikis can be helpful in many ways such as planning a unit or roadmapping. I can see my fabulous co-worker and I using these on a weekly basis. We love to do book studies on authors such as eric carle and dr. suess; by using a wiki we can plan and update our thoughts which will save us time! Neat! I can also see wikis being helpful with be a mommy. Mommy's unite and share info. I love how it's a working document that is touched by so many minds!

Library 2.0...where will it take libraries???

I feel old. Gosh I remember when we used the little slips on the back of the book to check out. Then we went to the computer check out system. The library was the catch all place to go for information, but I've seen that change too. It happened fast. In order for the library to survive this fast-constantly-changing world of technology, the librarian needs to be in the techie club!!

The librarian/library have to be tech advanced. Our librarian is just that! I go to her for technological advice. Like in library 2.o, my librarian has had to continue her learning. It's very evident with our librarian and lessons taught by her. I learn from her. This is our now.... and how our kids learn.

Thing 14

The amount of information on technoratti can be daunting! The search spot is easy enough to find and use, but the lists go on and on forever. Its hard to filter. I'm much more comfy w/ google searching. Love Delicious--the at hand tool bar makes it easy to re-visit. Blog is claimed. Here's to my increased traffic!

Tagging...

Well I must say this course has been right on target with my techie needs. I was just wondering today what I was going to do w/ all of my favorites. CRAZY... I mentioned earlier that I joined face book this summer, so the word tag or tagging was at least in my realm of kind-of knowing. I knew it was some form of marking... Well today, I learned more. Delicious was cool and answered my questions about what/where/how to organized my favorites. I didn't think I would like/use this site, but it's my favorite so far! It tool all 50+ of my bookmarks and saved those, plus I added categories for school and also for my baby. Really neat! Right now I only have three categories, but already it's much easier to navigate through. I tried to share/network but learned this will be a work in progress. I love being able to share tagged sites, cuts down on lots of time! Organization is always a goal for me each year...one that is hard for me to meet everyday. Having a website that will help me save all the great things I come across will help me come back to it and not LOSE it in some file. I find things all the time after a unit...this will help!!! Overall, I loved learning about tagging! I did look at the other sites, but stuck with Delicious...I felt I need to own this new concept first and then I can venture out!!

thing 12

Before this summer, I knew very little about blogging. I've heard of the word "blog" and thought I knew what it consisted of, but I knew very little. This summer, I joined face book and also followed a blog of co-worker. Face book may be a little different, but it is somewhat the same w/ the respect of comments. Cool Cat's exert on commenting was very interesting b/c I believe I've done some of those things. I've commented on things I don't care about and know I posted things that do not matter! Organizing my thoughts will help me get fruitful comments, not just compliments or she's pretty. The other blog I followed this summer was of a friend who had a heart attack. His family kept a daily blog on his status---this really helped me and so many others. I was afraid to make comments! It's scary to post, b/c you cannot delete. The article on alias vs. real was very interesting. If I were using an alias, I would feel very comfy...but using my real name holds me accountable and liable. That freaks me out!! With certain things I appreciate being anonymous! I understand chilibeans/Melanie's reasons for both.

I am going to comment on my friend John Harris's blog and also I am going to find a Harry Potter Blog and comment.

thing 11

Loved library thing! I can chat with other harry potter lovers and eric carle fans! It's a great resource plus it help keep all my books organized.

Thing 10

I tried all ot them and they all worked. I especially like dumpr, it's was neat to manipulate pictures and create mosaic puzzles, museum pics. I did have trouble posting some to my blog. I was able to post the link, but the picture would not show. The pictures I posted were the easiest to post.

Here are my links:
http://bighugelabs.com/deck.php
http://www.dumpr.net/

All of these applications can be used in my first grade classroom. What fun it would be to make trading card of all the kids! Games can be made, Center icons and so much more!!

I had lots of fun!

Which Search tool was the easiest for you?

Microsoft favorites on my tool bar. When I was on technorati, it sent all of my blog feeds there. I can click on the yellow star and find all of my blog feeds.

Which was more confusing? Google reader was for me. It was not confusing to set up, but when I tried to feed blogs into the site it became complicated. When I pressed the orange feed button it placed all of my feeds in the microsoft yellow star. This app is easy to find and all of my blogs are there, easy to read.

What kind of useful feeds did you find in your travels? Or what kind of unusual ones did you find? Oh... there are soooo many out there! I found a neat one on literature. It nice to have someone else do all of the hw and you just reap the benefits. LOve it! I also found one on someones quest for happiness. The blog post this person experiences...unusually interesting!

Thing 8

What I liked about RSS: I liked this b/c it will SAVE time. I have a 1 year old and this will help at home. I have very little time to check websites/emails. It will help me at school b/c my planning period will be maximized. I will be able to check my sites and work smarter not harder. :) Teachers can use this to help them sort and organize their favorite sites. By adding them and placing them in RSS, one can check several sites and waste less time and learn more.

Thing 7

Cool Things that Google has...

I love google and it has been my search engine of choice for several years. I tried google calendar and liked it, but don't have one of the cell phones to sync it so I will stick to paper right now. I would love to be able to sync my calendar w/ my phone so it's something I will think about when purchasing my next cell phone. I also tried google earth and WOW...so cool! This is such a neat application/service. I am a first grade teacher and could use this ALL year. Understanding and using a map is 1st grade tek...to be able to see one and watch it move really puts things in perspective. I know my kids will love it!

The below picture is my hubby Ernest and our precious daughter Victoria. We were celebrating our anniversary. I intend to add this to my picasa web folder to share our moments!!!!

activity 6

I really liked the flickr app for making mosaics. It looks complicated, yet it's beautiful. I can see it being helpful w/ themes and or the beg. of the year. I made a trading card that was neat. It can be used in many content areas. It was easy to make!

Activity 5

Flickr is great! I love on-line photo sharing! I use snapfish and shutterfly which are similiar photo sharing websites.

Thing 3

What I did...

Okay, so this is my first blog. I'm interested on how this is going to work. I'm loving the idea of online staff development!!!!!!!!!!!

Thing 2

Life Long Learning

The easiest habit for me is teaching/mentoring. I love sharing my knowledge which is why I teach! When I studied in school as a kid I always shared my learnings with my mom or brother--it helped me learn!

The hardest is to view problems as challenges. I get hung up very quickly which offten delays my learning/growth.
